October 22nd

This Monday we visited Bondi Beach. Bondi is considered to be one of the world`s greatest beaches. Being close to the city and consistently good waves make it a favorite with locals and tourists alike. Students were able to experience "Bondi Icebergs" an iconic swimming club which is the placebo be for swimmers around the world. After swimming students had the choice to join in for the costal walk  to Bronte Beach. At the end of the day we had a final meeting point at the Opera.

21th October

This Sunday we spend traveling to Manly Beach first. Being part of Sydney`s northern beaches Manly is reached by a ferry ride. Riding the ferry gives passengers the chance to take pictures of Sydney's most iconic landmark - Sydney Opera House. After spending some time at the beach the group set off to Cockatoo Island. Cockatoo Island is connected by a ferry ride too. Once again our students had the chance to experience the spectacular waterways of Sydney harbour.

Today was our first day in Sydney and we started at 9:30 am with a walk to the main harbour in Sydney next to the Opera.
Then we took the ferry to Manly 'Island' and had 3 hours freetime to explore the area:
Two pretty nice Beaches with a lot of opportunities to do some Surf, but we only walked along the Beach and watched the Surfers.
After that we went back to the harbour and had a closer look to the aestetic Opera of Sydney.
On this day we visited another Island, the 'Cockatoo Island', originally used as a Prison.
To finish with, we had some freetime in the City and met again at our Hostel.

20th October

Today it was time to say "Goodbye". At 2pm all students met at the airport and we have to say a big "Thank you" to MHS staff and the biggest "Thank you" to all host families. Especially Libby Briggs put a lot of effort in putting together a wonderful program to find out about the national sport in Australia. All students enjoyed every minute in Melbourne. We go home having new friends "Down Under". After saying "Goodbye" our travels continued to Sydney. Because of heavy thunderstorms we were delayed and had a happy landing.

19th October

Today MHS invited us to go to Anglesea to surf. All of the students met at 8:15 at school. We drove 2 hours to the beach. The weather was great with lots of sun and was 26 degrees. When we arrived  everyone got ready to surf and we were very excited. We put on our wetsuits and after we got ready we had a quick surfing lesson on the sand separated in two groups where the instructors showed us what we had to do to stand on the board. We surfed for a few hours and got help and advice from the instructors. After surfing we had lunch in Anglesea all together and drove back to the school in the bus. After that we had freetime and we spend the last day with the exchange students.

17th of October

Now we're almost two weeks in Melbourne and we are all getting used to everyday life here.Today we took the tram to school. In the first period we helped students in year 12 to practice for their oral exam on Friday. We went into small groups and had some discussions with them about topics like family, their relationship with their parents, fashion or music. It was very interesting to see other people learning our native language. We were very surprised how well some of them spoke German. In period two and three we joined the normal classes of our exchange partners. In my case it was history and science. Afterwards all German students participated in a cricket lesson. Cricket is quite a popular game in Australia and it is in many points similar to baseball. In general It is about the bowler, who throws the ball, the batsman who tries to chip off the ball with a cricket racket to score points. The field players support the bowler by bringing the ball back to him. Today we learned three different skills. These were throwing, catching and chipping off the ball. Think it was fun to learn about a new sport which we are not used to in Germany. Tomorrow are having a game. The rest of the day we had some free time and I went to the city with some friends. In the evening I visited the Hawker 88 night market at the Queen Victoria Markets with my exchange student.

All students attend regular classes today

15th of October

Today began like any other school day. First, we took the train to school and arrived there at 8:45am. After lunch we walked for 30 mins from school to the MCG, where we split up into two groups, to visit the museum in the stadium. MCG stands for Melbourne Cricket Ground and it is the home to many Australian sports like cricket, Australian footy, rugby and soccer. The museum showcased the history of cricket and Australian footy. They offered many different exhibits. Apart from historical information about some famous players or the stadium itself, there is also a part of the museum where you can try different activities. These activities included games, where we tried Australian football and the other sports.
After this a guide showed us the whole stadium as well as the changing rooms, super boxes and rooms of recovery. And then the day ended and we went to city to get dinner.
